I decided that I'll start writing about some mini travels that I experienced, in this blog. I'll start from the most recent one and work backwards. So here we go with the first place: Spoleto!
Spoleto is a small town in the region of Umbria in Italy and it is most famous for its annual Festival dei Due Mondi: three-weeks of music, theatre and dance performances.
Overview of Spoleto taken from the Rocca Albornoziana
Two of the most famous places are: the Rocca Albornoziana and the Duomo of Santa Maria dell'Assunta.
Duomo of Santa Maria dell'Assunta
Indeed, the latter is so famous that I bumped in an Italian TV series shooting one of their scenes with Terence Hill!
Being the typical Italian small town on a hilltop, the streets are narrow and steep. So steep, that in two days I had killer legs!
But not all streets were so narrow that cars couldn't park in the Italian style
Regarding the food (unfortunately no pics), it wasn't that good, but it may be due to eating at touristy places, which instead of making the typical local food, they were too sophisticated and catered to a more general meal.
Instead on safety, it is safe both in the morning and night. In the morning I went around by myself, even in the narrowest and darkest streets and nothing happened. At night, I walked back to the hotel with a colleague after midnight and no one said anything to us.
About the hotel...wellll.....I am still confused by their policy of giving out one set of keys for two people sharing the same room...and the shower cover! What use does it have if there is at least 10 cm of gap from the floor?? How should it block the water bouncing from the shower floor??? And their customer service....a little smile wouldn't hurt them....
All in all, if you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle from the city, but still get a workout without putting too much effort, I advice to check out this place. Especially in the evening with Spoleto Cammina, both for the locals and the tourists, and it is absolutely free!
Ciao!
